Cloudscape Norway provides a snapshot of who the most important Norwegian cloud providers are and in which cloud segments and categories they specialize.

Version 1.0 visualizes more than 125 cloud providers. SaaS is the most popular segment with 68% of entries. 32% of entries are IaaS providers.Within the SaaS segment, Communications is the leading SaaS offering with 13% of SaaS vendors. Finance/ERP commands a 10% share of SaaS followed by Digital Marketing (9%), Online Workspace (5%), HRM (5%) and Time Management (3%). Majority of Norwegian Cloud Providers Do Not Offer Online Ordering and On boarding

Providers that have a hosting partner are much more likely to offer online ordering and on boarding

60% of SaaS providers on hosted infrastructure provide on boarding with a swipe of the credit card. Only 11% of those that operate their own infrastructure do the same.
Consumer buying behaviour is shifting, and the customer buying experience is becoming increasingly important. CIO’s no longer control what comes in and what goes out, they are increasingly pushed by employees’ BYOD and BYOapp into the enterprise. It seems the majority of Norwegian SaaS vendors are not ready yet for this shift. Are you?

Less than Half of Norwegian SaaS Vendors Hosted in Norway

Of the 81 SaaS vendors we identified in Cloudscape Norway, 35% operate their own infrastructure. The other 65% partner with a hosting provider. Less than half of those (38%) have their production site hosted inside Norway (see Figure below).
The most popular hosting partners for Norwegian SaaS vendors are Amazon (26%), Microsoft (13%), Blix (8%), Evry (6%) and Rackspace (6%). The remaining 41% is split across a wide variety of vendors

Should you care where and with whom your data is located? Yes, you should. When evaluating SaaS vendors, it is important to understand whether they own their own infrastructure, which hosting partner they have if they do not, and which data centres their own or hosting partner infrastructure is located in. Also, you should know which jurisdiction(s), rules and regulations your data resides under.
